Members Newsletter—SPCA Laurentides-Labelle October, 2011

The SPCA Laurentides-Labelle, a no-kill adoption center, gives a second chance to stray, abandoned and mistreated pets within the limits of its financial and physical capacities. Every year, we taken in and find permanent adoption homes to more than 1,000 dogs and cats..

Hi!

So you’re friends of the SPCA Laurentides-Labelle? Oh, I’m so glad to hear it! It makes me happy because personally, I love pets and the SPCA LL!

I started volunteering about a year ago, with my mom, Eugénelle Dumais, who is an employee. At home, I have a dog, Zoé, as well as two pet mice, Damga and Frifitie, but my family also takes in pets as a foster family because we know how important it is to help out dogs and cats who need it. There are an unbelievable number of ways that you can help out the SPCA LL team, who does so much with so little: you can walk dogs and play with them, brush cats’ coats, clean blankets and litters, make a donation… What I like best is to give cats treatments when they’re sick, so that they recover quickly and be in a cheerful mood again!

Let me introduce your to Tinky-Winky. She’s an adorable kitty. She doesn’t mind being held for hours! You can play with her and touch her without a problem. She’s truly easy going. I hope someone will adopt her soon. She’s my super favorite!!!!
There are also special occasions through which you can help. Maybe you’ve heard of the rescue of 32 beautiful huskies last August. Poor pups! Fortunately the team at the SPCA LL built an emergency shelter and I was part of those who lent a helping hand to make sure these dogs were well taken care of and recovered in order to be ready for adoption. I’m su- per happy that most of them found homes where they’ll be treated nicely!

I love the SPCA LL so much that I brought a friend to volunteer with me. Later, I’ll be a vet and we’ll have a clinic together. But before that, I intend on working here as soon as I’m old enough. (And let me tell you something else: I look forward to being taller and to finally be able to wear a

In the meantime, the whole team at the SPCA LL and myself would be very happy if you had a little thought for us and gave generously so that we can continue to save animals and love them with all our hearts.

Thanks to all!

Our Big Move: The SPCA Laurentides-Labelle’s commitment to animal welfare is relentless. We’re taking in more and more dogs and cats in need and we’re always looking for ways to provide them with the best care. These factors and many more mean we are carefully preparing our move in a building that will be more adequate for our activities. Our team has already started to meet with managers of several cities in our region in order to discuss zoning regulations and other important considerations for our adoption center.

At the same time, we need help to find a new location at a low price. The SPCA LL’s project includes:

  • A building of approximately 1,000 square meters;
  • A land of 10,000 square meters or more;
  • A place which will be easily accessible via Autoroute 15 or Route 117.
  • A place which will not become a nuisance to the neighborhood since we’ll have exterior pens for dogs;
If you know such a place (for sale or for rent), please contact our team at (819) 326-4059 or by email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)!

NEWS FLASHES

… Our cocktail-auction, Gimme shelter, ended up being a huge success this year again, with approximately 700 participants and more than $115,000 raised. Thanks to all!
… The SPCA LL continues to participate in creating better pet protection laws thanks to its Executive Director, Corinne Gonzalez, who is part of the Board of Directors of Anima Québec.
… The Provincial network for the protection of pets, which includes our inspector, Marc Levasseur, is showing results: on top of the recent husky rescue (see reverse side), the SPCA LL also proceeded in August to the seizure of 39 chow-chows who were kept in inadequate conditions. Not to mention some 500 huskies who were recently seized in the Outaouais! Our team volunteered to help care for them. These are good news for the protection of our four-legged friends!

A TV STAR IS BORN !…
and we all love him

Weizre Hi! My name is Weiser. I’m a 2 y.o. male pitbull mix and my life hasn’t been easy. However, I’m a very sociable, energetic, playful and gentle pet.
I don’t mean to brag, but people keep telling me I’m an adorable pooch! The TV show Animo, airing on Radio-Canada, even put me under the spotlights recently. I’d be very happy to find a loving family!
