                   " Give our seniors a chance to love" Special cat from March 22nd to 30th, our cats 6 years old and older for a donation

The S.P.C.A. Laurentides-Labelle:

Located in Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, the SPCA Laurentides-Labelle is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1985 by a group of veterinarians and citizens concerned about the protection of pets.

OUR MISSION:

As a no nonessential euthanasia adoption center, our mission is to provide a second chance for strays, abandoned and abused animals to the extent of our financial and physical capabilities.

We provide these animals the respect, care and affection they need. We then find the best possible home for each of them, without discrimination or time limit.We have also established a volunteer program for young offenders and for active retirees

Finally, our organization plays an important role in educating the public. We encourage sterilization in order to curb overpopulation of animals. We also inform the public about adoption, which is a commitment for the lifetime of the animal, and we offer advice through the local media.

OUR VISION AND DREAMS:

Our long term vision is to become the best no nonessential euthanasia adoption center in Quebec and a model for public education regarding sterilization. This will help us save even more animals while helping to change attitudes and laws relating to the protection of animals in our province.

OUR RESOURCES

Minedie
The SPCA Laurentides-Labelle receives no financial assistance from other Canadian SPCA’s.

Our activities are funded by admission and adoption fees, and by donations from the public, specifically through fundraising campaigns as “Gimme Shelter, our annual cocktail auction held each spring in Morin Heights.

To reduce our costs, we also established partnerships with companies providing food for animals and veterinarians who offer us their services at low cost, in our new surgery suite.

OUR TEAM AND OUR NETWORK:

The Board of Directors of the SPCA Laurentides-Labelle includes nine handpicked directors. Everyone has the expertise and / or a network of partners in the industry.

Our Executive Director manages a team of 10 full and part time employees dedicated to adoptions and animal care. We rely on health specialists and animal behaviorists, as well as two inspectors trained and certified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for the application of the “Act on Health Protection of Animals”.

Our center also has a team of volunteers that provide added small animal care, give love and take care of several tasks, including fostering of animals with special needs.

Finally, the SPCA Laurentides-Labelle is part of a vast network of animal rescue organizations known throughout North America. These agencies help us find homes for animals that are more difficult to adopt in the region and lend a hand in the event of major rescues

HOW WE HELP:

Since we are a no nonessential euthanasia adoption center, some animals have a longer stay in our center, we make sure they are as comfortable as possible.

Our dogs are walked three times a day in an enchanting country site. They can run and play in two outdoor enclosures.

We promote freedom rather than cages for cats. A large part of them are sheltered in large enclosures with an outdoor yard, where they can run and move together and benefit from fresh air.

For those less fortunate an indoor playroom is at their disposal to allow them to stretch their mussels

.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS:

In recent years, the team from the SPCA Laurentides-Labelle had to adapt to an increasing number of animals in need. Our goal is to do more with less, to offer as much service to the public. To get there, we spent much time and energy, such as:

  • The negotiation for sponsorships with companies to reduce costs (eg, animal food and veterinary care at low cost);
  • The development of protocols for safe animal care, through effective and efficiently researching of literature, consultation with other Canadian shelters and negotiation with our veterinarian partners.
  • Achieving a 100% sterilization rate of dogs and cats entrusted to us, which helps limit the pet overpopulation in our area;
  • Active participation in a network of animal rescue organizations throughout North America in order to save as many animals as possible.
  • Construction of a surgery and examination room for the animals entrusted to us. This reduces our projected veterinary costs while providing greater care with the same resources. It also provides a considerable reduction of stress to the animals as they no longer have to undergo transport to veterinary clinics.
  • Participation to change laws on animal welfare, particularly through our general director who was invited to serve on the Work Group on Animal Welfare of the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Food (MAPAQ). She also serves on the board ANIMA-Quebec, at the request of the MAPAQ.

OUR PROJECTS:

We have several projects in the short and long term, including:

  • Find a new building that will be better adapted to the growing number of animals that we welcome and their well-being. Denial applications for abandonment due to lack of space will then be reduced and we will be able to offer even more services, for example, adoption of animals seized under the law, obedience classes and dog agility, conferences, and low-cost sterilization.
  • Continue our participation in the improvement of legislation on the protection of animals. Some changes were recently made but much remains to be done. Our goal is to address the issues on all levels: municipal, provincial and federal governments. We must raise the funds necessary to hire specialists,
