Pet Headlines RETURN

Summer is here and fun is in the air! Here are a few regional headlines, as reported by the dear pets who are waiting for loving families at the adoption center of the SPCA LL. Enjoy!

Water Level Rises in the Laurentians

By Duke, swimming buff (who loves water so much he was recently caught lying flat on his stomach trying to swim in a water puddle!)

Water levels have risen in the Laurentians due to the abundant rain we've had. Many of my fellow dogs have reported having much more fun than usual splashing around, although some have complained about the lower levels of blue algae, which means they come out of the water cleaner than they'd like.

Talks of a New Toll in the Office

By Piratine, counter co-owner

Some cats at the SPCA LL say there should be a toll in the office for visitors who dare to lean their elbows on the counter. They claim the counter and beds/baskets are theirs and no one should be allowed to trespass without a fee. They propose the implementation of a toll in the form of cat treats or, better yet, permanent adoption by visitors.

Hunting Season Opens

By Tite-Grise, expert fly hunter

With the warm weather, hunting season has opened everywhere. A favorite sport for many cats, hunting is in full swing with the numerous ants and flying insects in and around homes. A few minor incidents have been reported, mostly with clumsy or inexperienced cats running into furniture during their chase. Most had seven or eight lives left anyway.

Construction Boom in the North

By Buck, clown and acrobat

More and more residents from Montreal and around are choosing to buy a condo or have a house built in the North. Some dogs are concerned with the fact that there is less and less space available to run around and show their acrobatic talents. A few are demanding that studies be done to make sure dog space will be sufficient in the long run (no pun intended!).

More Affection for Pets

By Bouddha, human lover

More tourists in Ste. Agathe means more visitors for pets in our region. Several cats and dogs have reported enjoying the extra attention and fun from friends and family coming to visit for a few days. The pets at the SPCA LL have also enjoyed this extra affection. However, our poll shows that most would still prefer to find a permanent home.

Housing Shortage at the SPCA LL

By Fred, couch potato

Numerous people moved on July 1st and this has left the SPCA LL with a shortage in housing for abandoned and neglected cats and dogs. This problem is compounded by the many litters that are left at the shelter at this time of year. Some pets like their tranquillity and do not enjoy having so many animals around the adoption center. Please be part of the solution: adopt an animal and/or have your pet spayed or neutered!

For more information about these pets, please contact our counsellors at the SPCA LL

at (819) 326-4059 or visit our website at www.spcall.ca. Our adoption center is located

at 355 Demontigny in Ste-Agathe-des-Monts and is open to the public

from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.
